Hello.

I just want to ask regarding the wind load for pipeline under ASME B31.8. Do we need to consider or subject the Stress Analysis of pipeline for Wind Load? It was not stated in the code if the wind should be considered. What is the reason?

Thank you

Regards,

Marchie

Because the pipeline is usually buried.

If it's above ground then you add wind loads to the stress analysis.

There are some parts that are buried and some are abovegroud and it is connected to scraper laucher and receiver. In the flexibility analysis specification of the client, it states that only pipe 10meyer above the ground is considered for wind load. Does it mean that the wind load consideration for ASME B31.8 do not have limit on the height of the pipeline?

No limit that I am aware of.

Pipeline codes tend to be good for buried pipe and not very good for above ground pipe. Wind load and impact on the pipe tends to be low at low elevation but stick it in a pipe rack high in the air and you should allow for it.

If the client isn't worried about it then why are you? This is to to you and the client.
