Wind Loading on due pitch Canopies

Hi Guys

I did a wind loading model on a Duo-pitch canopy 6m wide X 50m long, pitch is 2 degrees and I loaded the canopy as per our design code in South Africa. Which is up lift, down force, then up and down force on only the one half of the roof or one side of the ridge.

So what about "draft". By loading only one side of the roof e.g. uplift, creates a "draft" to the one side as there is no resultant wind loading in the other direction.

Now this is in the x direction along the width of the canopy but what about in the z axis along the length, is it because the worst sway reaction will be created in this direction.

Does your code require you to look at drag? I would have thought this would have been a issue for the 50m direction.

"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning."

For a 2 degree pitch, I doubt it is much of a problem. It would be checked in the 6m direction. I usually check it for any gabled condition, but your leeward loading is going to be very small.

The thing is I can’t find the drag in the code and I agree with you (rowingengineer) that drag would have some effect but that is my question will it be more than across the 6m direction?

But then I also agree with Ron, my initial understanding, because that is what the code allows for but I just wanted confirmation.
