In the above referenced section do the horizontal and vertical forces (Fh & Fv) need to be considered simultaneously or is the intent to examine their effect on the structure separately? I know what is more conservative but I'm unclear on the code's requirement.

(Sorry if this has been addressed before but, if so, I can't remember the response.)

How can the vertical wind force physically act separate from the horizontal wind force?

Simultaneously. As an aside, you'll find the horizontal and vertical forces are ridiculous because of the GCr values. I don't know who comes up with this crap... must be some college professor who has never designed a building.

Belated thanks. I agree that applying them concurrently makes sense, I was just trying to make sure that that was the code's intent, which, from the sound of it, it is. Thanks again.
