Please help, i need to know where can i obtain a sort of wind pressure map or wind speed map for middle east (specifically for Kuwait and United Arab Emirates).

I'll be needing it for building design.

thanks a lot.

hi marisse

here in the Dubai UAE the municipality provide the basic wind speed is 45 m/s.
and the approved codes is BS6399 ,or the old one CP3.

regards

AhmedR,

Thank you very much for your quick response, one question though, is it applicable for all the 7 emirates of UAE?

Thanks again.

marisse,

I do not use BS codes, however, the MIL-HBK-1002/2A requires a wind speed of 81 MPH (miles per hour) or 36 meters per second for bases in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. These are peak gust velocities that are equal to the 3-second gust in ASCE 7 standard in my opinion.

I would compute the pressures using the ASCE 7-02

I hope this helps.

u welcome

in sharjah it is , i'm not sure about Abu dhabi ,
but i think it's applicaple for it cuz 45 m/s is a high value.
worth mentioning that alot of new tall & complex buildings in dubai designed by wind tunnel test.

from my friend in sauda arabia wind speed is 130 km/hr
and they follow UBC code.

my regards.

Lufti,

Thanks, i'll remember that in case i'll be designing a building in saudi arabia. That value is also similar to the value given by AhmedR (130km/hr).

I think i can apply the 45 m/s for UAE area but i dont know what to apply for Kuwait.

In case these wind speed is not provided, what minimum value can we apply in Mid East? Any suggestion?

Thanks everybody!

It is interesting that 45m/s is suggested for both BS6399 ans the previous code CP3 Ch. V. as BS6399 contains values at sea level and requires a modification factor for elevation whereas CP3 did not. I've not got either code to hand so I'm working from memory...

I'd guess that 45m/s is the calculated ground level wind speed and that CP3 is the appropriate code due to the fact that it is older.

If I rememder correctly, BS6399 gives basic wind speed values of about half of those from BS6399 (But similar forces).

Thank you very much everybody for helping out....thi forum is great!
