DO the start and run windings of the slow speed add on to the high speed winding to get the high speed . I have connected this lafert single phase motor but the high speed is the same as the low and it makes a humming noise when swithced to high . No diagrams or identified leeds . Do i have to series the low speed winding to the high speed winding to get the high speed to work . arcman

Is there a centrifugal switch present in the motor? Are there seperate cables for the high/low/start windings? If so, how many? Depending on the type of motor application, speed selection can take place through terminals on switch plate, and/or cent switch. Again depending on motor application, a tapping winding may be present, therefore connecting all run winding in series would actually give low speed, not high. Humming may point to couple of different incorrect connections. First is to rate the motor, to determine if the start winding is left in the circuit, or eliminated after start up. Cent switch could answer this question. Also are the any capacitors present in this motor?
