Window help! Old YMCA

Hello,

I have just moved into an old YMCA, and they have these windows with I assume a pulley system. I have no clue on where to start to open them.

Any ideas?

Depending on how high the latch is, you might want to investigate these. They were commonplace at one time -

edit - I just noticed the price. You can figure out much cheaper alternatives.

Look around for a very long pole with a hook or similar feature on the end.

It's called a window pole.

I would call them hopper windows or awning windows based on swing. See the link -

Hmm so I assume then that they swing in then, how do I get them closed? And why are there pulley wheels?

I expect there were blinds/curtains that are pulled up, but it's hard to see the details.

They are closed the way they are opened. The window pole is put into the loop and pushed until the window shuts.

There is a good chance that enough paint has been used the window won't move.

Lol I being around long enough as a kid it was common to have sliding windows with counter balance, pulleies, with a cable, countet weight to give mechanical advantage, as a kid not as strong could open and close the window. But eventually stop working correctly and because of wear and age took hold.
