Wire Laser Additive Manufacturing

I am conducting a research on Laser metal Additive Manufacturing. I have a laser welding head that utilises collimation and Focal lens. Can someone guide me to figure out the working distance? the distance from the tip laser welding head to wire feeder tip. And also can please someone explain how does the collimation and focal lens work. Is there calculation for it?
