Wire rope clamping 1

Hello all,

I need to verify the use of a 1/8" wire rope used to pull a load. I have the strength of the rope now the question comes up about the clamps. I am using the recommendation from the McMaster-Carr catalog as far as installation, is there another source i.e. industry standard that gives the number of clamps, location and torque? Thanks in advance.

Hi Bluesman,

If you are going to use Bulldog clamps, the rule of thumb is "never saddle a dead horse". This means that the saddle of the bulldog clamp should not be on the end of the loop if you make loop in the wire rope.

Before I'd heard the "saddle" saying, the way I remembered that the ring went over the dead end, was "dead ringer". In spite of sayings and literature, it is very common to see clamps installed upside down.
