What beam size/designation would be equivalent to a wooden beam, 13' long, consisting of 3 2x8's nailed together? I have an old shop with a rotten beam that acts as the support for the second level floor joists (they're jack-poled with supports wedged in place now) and want to use steel since I have a "BUNCH" of oil field surplus beams lying around unemployed. I hope to simply piggy-back the steel beam next to the old beam then take the wooden beam down permanently. The joists will sit on the new beam OK since it will only be moving 4 1/2 inches off location. If I can get this replaced, I can save the building and use the upper level for material storage (light stuff, nothing heavy!). Thanks!!!!
