Hi to all
Due to space restrictions, is it possible to place the wooden joists directly on an I-Beam without having any wood nailer between the wooden joists and the I-beam, it is noted here that at the end of the joists there is a 2 1.3E LVL's (i.e. the LVL's are running along the I-beam) ... and to restrict the I-Beam from lateral movement an angle is suggested to be welded on the flanges of the I-beam and have a bolt fasten to the LVL's...

Is there any structural problem with that?

Bookowski, if a top flange hanger requires 10d nails (3" long), then you don't have enough wood to sink the nails in a single flat 2x.

Why not use joist hangers on double nailer on W460x52 (W18x35 Imperial)? Weight is the same, deflection is much less, flange width is 152mm (6") and it gives better lateral support to the top flange. Would need to fur down about 3" to window head.

simpson still does. I think they even have handy weld sizes. I know USP does. You have to look at the "custom" options in the back of the catalog.

Eldorado is right. Every once in a while I get one of these flush steel beams from an Architect and I get a nice 1.5" plate. Unfortunately the larger beam flust with the typ. joist need heavier duty hangers. Then I get to spec a custom height hanger which gets welded direct to the steel.

Welding on a wood job is not a good idea. Use joist hangers with a nailer.

Weld any hangers before wood installed. Top mount hangers go in before the joists are set anyway. Sometimes you just can't get the config to work without it. I've seen more burn holes from the plumbers than the steel erector.
