Hey Guys,

I have a situation where I have a deflection joint in cfs studs. My question is, does this require a fixed connection @ the top of the top stud and bottom of the bottom stud?

Can you provide a better sketch showing the connections? If this was a curtain wall system for a multistory building I could see other possible solutions, ie, bottom stud is connected at base to slab/foundation and then at 2nd floor framing and cantilevers past to connect bottom of upper stud, in which case it wouldn't need a moment connection, however as you describe and present above, I agree with phamENG.

Seconding a further sketch. Where do the studs above and below the joint go to and how are they supported?

I don't know if it's possible to create a moment connection, while allowing vertical slip. How would the T/C forces be passed from flange to flange if there has to be movement allowance?
