Hi all,
This is kind of theoretical question, but it is something I've been required to do lately.
If you were tasked to qualify welders (not operators) and welding procedures for both EN 9606 and ASME SECTION IX,
Which test piece will you choose for the WPQ and for the PQR? consider the welding position, thickness, size, diameter, welding, backing (with\without) etc.
Here is an important data regarding my question:
- Welding process is GMAW
- Type of welding is semi-automatic
- P-No. is 8, Group No. is 1 (Austenitic Stainless Steel)
- Filler metal is SFA 5.9, F-No. 6.
- Maximum thickness to be welded is 60mm and we weld groove and fillets.
- The welder can weld any thickness\diameter and in any welding position.
I know this is very theoretically, nevertheless it has some practical meaning for me.
Thanks,
