Good day Gents,

pls i need your advise on a WPQ i want to carry out as i am not clear on the Impact energy value requirement for the charpy impact test to be carried out on the test piece.

The WPQ is for a 16mm thk PL, the process to be used for welding this plate is Sub-arc welding(SAW). The presure vessel is to be built in accordance to PD5500 spec, the design temperature of this vessel is -46 deg. C. i have consulted the code and found the ref. point to be ANNEX D Fig D-1 i used the graph in the figure to trace the design ref. temp. down to get the required imapct temp. which falls to be -34 deg. C. where i am have difficulty is to determine the required impact energy value in Joules.

Pls. i need to know if i am on the right path as well as what should be the required impact energy value.

Thanks

@ rhg Thanks alot for your response...........Please can you advise what is the appropriate current, voltage and Heat input to apply for welding SAW process bearing in mind that the test piece will undergo impact test. To ensure that the area to be tested(weldmetal centre and heat affected zone) can absorb up to 40J as stated in table D.2

Thanks
