Developing Hard Facing Overlay weld procedure Chromium Carbide (CCO). Weld Rod is ARCTEC 661T. As-per ASME Sec IX Table QW-453 Note 3. Liquid Penetrant (PT) of the overlay surface is required. As we all know Stress relief cracking (CCO) hard facing weld overlay is expected with ARCTEC 661 T. I have seen in other WPS, & PQR, the requirement for PT is waved due to the above. Can any one advise on the best way to address this issue. I am based in Alberta & have to submit to ABSA for approval.

GemmellG,
Don't have much experience with hard facing but looking at Table QW 453 there are a couple of "escape clauses".
Note 3 states you comply with QW 195.2 or the WPS so you can basically write your own acceptance criteria.
The other is "surface conditioning" is permitted so you can grind down to the minimum required on the WPS and hopefully remove any cracking.
Not sure if that helps at all,
Regards,
DD

I would agree with DD above. We have required conditioning prior to LPT.

Thanks another question chemical results on the single layer is not meeting our clients spec 25% Cr any suggestions

GemmellG;
How many layers are you depositing? It sounds to me like a dilution problem if you are depositing only a single layer.

Doing both single, & multiple. Single I am getting 21.92% & Multiple 29.44%. The client standard call for 25% minimum.
