HELLO,
WE HAVE A PROBLEM IN WELDING OF MATERIAL WITH SAME P-NO. BUT
DIFFERENT GROUP NOS.
AS WE FOLLWD ASME SECTION IX WE FOUND IN QW403.5 THAT IF THERE IS NOT ANY CHANGE IN ESSENTIAL VARIABLES EXEPT IN GROUP NO. THEN WE CAN QUALIFY PROCEDURE FOR WELDING OF THE SAME MATERIAL WITH THE SAME P-NO. AND GROUP NO. AND THEN IT QUALIFIES WELDING OF TWO TYPE OF MATERIALS WITH THE SAME P-NO. BUT DIFFERENT GROUP NOS.
THIS PROBLEM IS SPECIALLY IN WELDING OF PIPES TO FLANGE AND FITTING WHICH HAVE DIFFERENT GROUP NOS. AND EMPHESISE THAT ALL ESSENTIAL VARIABLES (ELECTROD,FILLER,...) ARE THE SAME AND DIFFERENCE IS JUST IN GROUP NOS.

hi
for this question i need these information:
1-What are your problems in welding of pipes and flanges?
2-What is the p.no and group.no of materials that you use?
best regards,
S.Moeinifar

hi,
The pipe material is A333 Gr.6 (P.No-1 and G.No-1)
and flange material is A350 Gr.LF2(P.No.-1 and G.No.2)
Regards,
R.Salimi

Hi,
If you dont need for your application "notch toughness" test you can use from a PQR for joining these materials.
For example : get one test coupon from pipe accordance ASME sec Ix.
If you have a metallurgical problem in welding these materials plese write for me:

Best regards,
S.M,

To whom it may concern.

"what is the best way, and cheapest, and fastest: to weld carbon steel pipe?" DOW Chemical standards.

Any information would be helpful.

Sadra,
I'll use the pipe and flange material specified by you to explain what the code intention is:
If you weld a PQR with SA333Gr 6 and SA350LF2 with notch toughness(impact testing when the supplementary essential variables are also valid) then you can use a WPS generated with the support of this PQR to weld P1Gr1 to P1Gr1 or P1Gr2 to P1Gr2 as well(In addition to P1Gr1 to P1Gr2) provided rest of the essential variables are the same.
On the other hand if you have two PQRs welded between SA333Gr6 to SA333Gr6 and SA350LF2 to SA350LF2, such that the only change in the two PQRs is the base material type and grade, then the two PQRs can be combined to generate on WPS which can be used for welding P1Gr1 to P1Gr1 or P1Gr2 to P1Gr2 or P1Gr1 to P1Gr2. A note of caution that as per non mandatory appendix QW 420.1 paragraph 3, A333gr 6 or A350LF2 would be classified as S 1 Group 1 and S1 Group 2 respectively(Materials belonging to ASTM specification shall have the same S No Gr No as the P No G No to which the materials classified as per ASME Section II A or II B)

Thanks and regards
