Hi All,

Regarding WRC calculation i have a question: please consider a 4" nozzle on a vessel including 4"pipe attached to shell, 4x2 reducer and 2" flange. To check the WRC for this nozzle should i consider the allowable nozzle load applicable for 2" size or 4"?

Thanks in advance

Hi Farzam,

first of all the nozzle is connected to a process pipeline of 2" and consequently the nozzle will be subjected to a nozzle loads due to the related connected pipeline.
As I know, the main problem relating to your matter is about the nozzle shape where the conical transition cannot be considered into the WRC calcualtion.
Anyway please consider that the allowable nozzle load used in WRC calculation are related to a pipeline of 2", while the nozzle neck to shell attachment is 4". Therefore the only concern can be the behavior of the conical transition subjected to load combinations.

Just a quick comment;- the WRC 107 is considering the stresses at the juction of the nozzle with the shell, disregarding the shape and length of the nozzle. As Simdro said, the nozzle loads applicable are the 2" pipe loads, applied to the 4" nozzle size at the junction with the shell.
