WRC 297 Limitations

I am working on a nozzle load calculation on a small pressure vessel. The nozzles are 2" pipe. As I look at paragraph 3.2 in WRC 297, there is a statement that for thin-shell theory to be valid, d/t must be greater than 20. That seems to prevent this bulletin from being used for small nozzles. What other methods are applicable for calculating stress in nozzle/shell joints for small nozzles?

You could do an FEA analysis if you have the mathematical ability or software, FEA is way more accurate than WRC anyway.
 
That's the reason that you don't apply the WRC 107 to nozzle less tha 3" NB.

Use FEA.But i wonder why do you need to perform nozzle load calculation for a 2" nozzle? Such small lines are usually not "stress critical".
 
Thanks for the responses. Our customer apparently has an aversion to pipe supports. The customer specification has a generic nozzle load table that has significant nozzle loads for nozzle sizes down to 1".
