xbind question

Yes, I received a drawing from an architect that had many xrefs. I want to copy the drawing and paste it into my own template with my own layers, but to do this I have to bind his xrefs to the drawing to make them actual layers. I was successful in binding all but 1 of them. It gives me an *invalid* message and I have no clue why.

The steps I take are the following:

1) -xref
2) ? (to list all xrefs on the drawing - find xref to bind)
3) -xref
4) bind
5) <name of xref>

Then I get *invalid*. There's nothing different about this xref than the others so I don't know why it's giving me trouble. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. This xref is information I need.

1. Could it be that it is a nested xref?
2. Can you detach it and insert the original dwg into your dwg?

I could detach it and insert it, but there are many of this particular xref in the drawing and it would take considerable time to insert the original drawing. I'm looking into if it's nested. But if it is, that means there is a "parent" xref somewhere but I don't see it.

I am not an expert on xrefs so don't take it as gospel. Is it something like on a locked layer or is the path identified by the xref on a similar layer marked up as normal. If and when you find the answer please don't forget to get back and let us all know.

Instead of binding your Xref, go to MODIFY pull down menu---->Xref& Block Editing---->Open Reference---see what happens
