Yad/Yag Laser Cladding with 316 powder

I am experiencing significant micro-cracking in 2nd and subsequent layers of 316 stainless steel powder applied to mild steel with my commercial Yad/Yag laser. I am feeding the powder into the beam externally. No pre-heat. Anyone got any thoughts?
