After reading many of the posts, I have yet to see a solution to a firewall problem that we are trying to solve.
We are building adjecent to the exterior wall of an existing building. We need a seismic/expansion joint the a 2 story masonry firewall, then our new steel framed 2 story building.
Trying to cantilever the 28' tall masonry the full 2 stories results in excessive masonry compressive stresses when considering the seismic loads on the walls. The (BOCA) seismic loads are significant due to the importance of the use group, the locations of certain parts of the wall, etc.
Due to the required seismic joint, any sort of attachments would only be able to be on one side, but I am not seeing that solution.
