When qualifying impact tested procedures, I understand the logic in the paragraph referenced above, however, I came across an interpretation that raises a question, at least in my mind.
It is the answer to the second question in interpretation VIII-92-221, page 617, that leaves me uncertain.
To summarize, the first question concerns using a procedure impact qualified using material in the norm & temp condition, on material in the Q & T condition. The answer is no, which is what one would expect after referencing the Code paragraph. The second question asks 'is it permissible to weld a second coupon using Q & T material and impact test the HAZ only?' Answer is no. In following Code rules it is permissible to run a supplementary test plate for impacts only, so I'm wondering what is required in this case? Impacts of the HAZ & weld?
