Dear people,

I have a doubt about external threads.
I have a bar with an external thread, this one must run through another part with a tapped hole. But this way I'll have an interference because the hole on the part was made with HOLE WIZARD and it's a Ø12 hole, but the HOLE WIZARD made it with a Ø10.2 (internal diameter of the thread). Well, the bar was made using a Ø12 circle extruded and after it I putted a M12 cosmetic thread in the bar. When I assembly it an interference will appear, is there any way of do this without the interference???

Thank you,

Well, there IS an interference. Otherwise it would not be a thread. You have to use a real swept thread for the rod and not just a cosmetic thread.

The "interference" is caused by the female threads of one part and the male threads of the other.

Adding Helix & Sweep features might look good in the begining, but they soon drag your computer down so much, you will have problems. If you need to show the actual threads, you can model the cut threads on both parts, just make it a practice to Supress those features when they are not being used for detail. Good idea Mango.. I'll do that... Thank you all of you.

Instead of making the helix & a sweep feature, you could try doing a cut-revolve. A helix by itself can bring a computer to it's knees (depending on Complexity). So that's why I started making threads with a single sketch entity.

1) The Sketch consists of with 2 lines 60 degrees from one another, then 2 more lines attached to those (that are parallel), then one connecting them together, giving you a closed contour.

2) Then I would do a simple Cut-Revolve around a Centerline or Temp Axis.

3) I would then proceed to do a Linear pattern at some given distance.

Doing it this away could cut down on file size.

You could do the same thing with this, that MadMango has pointed out. You can suppress this the same way if you needed to.

If you would like an example of what I'm saying feel free to email me and I'll send it to you.
Hope this helps, Scott Baugh, CSWP :)

Good suggestion Scott, I forgot that one.

I hardly bother with anything besides Cosmetic Threads, unless the threaded area will be detailed in a section view, then I'll make the threads, and when I do it for that, I indeed use the simple cut-feature which has been Linear Patterned.

About the only time I'll actually make real threads is when the thread is something strange, like 2 1/4-8 UN. "Happy the Hare at morning for she is ignorant to the Hunter's waking thoughts."

Your sugestion sounds good Scott, I think did understand what you meant and I would like to try this one as well! :) If you can send me an exemple just to me be sure that I understand I would be so grateful. My e-mail is rbasniak@uol.com.br

If you don't really need to show your thread edit the hole with hole wizzard and select "no cosmetic thread" in the
dialog box. That will draw the tapped hole at maximum diameter and you are not gonna have interference anymore.
