This frustration is stemming from that fact that you are trying to treat a solid modeling program as a 2d drafting program.

To move a group of sketch segments, you'll have to go to Tools/Sketch Tools/Modify. This will move all the sketch segments that you have created. The Modify option will let you move a sketches in X-Y and let's you rotate them about an origin.

I don't want to come off sounding like I am attacking you, but if you are going to be using SoldWorks more than AutoCAD, the best advice is to forget everything you learned about AutoCAD.
