foaming/carry over in amine scrubber

we use DEA scrubber to remove H2S from recycle gas, Lean DEA temperature is maintained between 55 to 60 degree C, and recyle gas to scrubber above 40 degree C. Temperature difference between DEA and recycle gas is maintained around 10 degree C. temperature of recycle gas went down to 37 degree C, and it caused foaming/carry over. please tell me why foaming happened at low temperature and how to prevent it?

One suggestion is that at teh cooler temperatrue you got soem hydrocarbon liquid condensing which could cause the foaming. Have you tried approaching a vendor of amine systems to ask the question?

I second grt12, your probelm is because of hydrocarbon condensation, Liquid Hydrocarbon in the Amin contactor is the main cause of foaming. based on your gas compostion, draw the gas envelop and see where is your operating point relative to the dew point curve. You have to maintain it above the dew point with a safety factor. The other factors cause foaming are : gas suspended solid due to poor pre-filteration, mine degredation because of high temperature and other amine contamination and others,
I recommed to buy Gas Conditioning and Processing manual by Jhon-Campell company . it is very good reference

I've seen this problem for an DEA scrubber in the separation section of a hydrotreater unit. The foaming problem was unbearable until we improved the separation to eliminate carryover of hydrocarbon droplets.

More information is necessary here. What are the other operating variables?
