Hi,
I have some lost CAD files. All we have are pdfs of the drawings. Sometimes we just need to make a small change to the drawing. For example just some text to the drawing.

Is there a program to convert the pdf file to format that I can import into NX? I have seen some programs that convert pdfs to dxf but when you import a DXF into NX things like the fonts of the dimensions get messy and need to be redrawn.

When I need to convert a drawing from NX to dxf I have found that exporting NX to cgm with output text set to Polyline works very well. Then import the cgm file to NX and then export to dxf.

I would like to do this from PDF to cgm to NX.

Also, DXF or DWG to cgm to NX would be nice.

Does anyone know of some software that will do this?

Just Google 'PDF to CGM converter'. I got over 200,000 hits.

To get you started, here's a site where you can get a free trial copy of their software:

My suggestion would be Inkscape ( https://inkscape.org/en/) . It will open a PDF and you can then save as to a DXF (It doesn't do CGM).
Use Path -> Object to Path to convert any text to curves before saving and you might get what you want.
Example image below of a PDF I had sitting around that I converted & read into NX.

Reaconverter did not work.

Inkscape worked great. It is just what I needed. When I import the cgm file into NX it looks just like the pdf drawing. Now I just need to make the few changes and leave all the rest untouched.

The GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE is nice too.

Super thanks PhoeNX
