In NX, if I save the file with the model in view, it sets the preview up. However in the MY TEAM CENTER it never shows a good preview image under the SUMMARY tab. Does anyone know how to make that preview image look right?

What do you exactly mean with " A good preview" ? The preview is just a snapshot bitmap which is stored in the named references of the NX dataset.
It would be far better to use the JT file for previewing.

Its actually nothing important. I just finished creating a new component and was about to release it and I noticed the preview image on the right showed 3 lines from the corner of a solid. You cant even see what it looks like. If opening it in the NX, I get a good clean preview of the component. But if someone just does a search in My Team Center, the image on the right doesnt show them anything. When I create components, if its easy to fix, I would rather make sure that it shows a good picture of the component before I release it.

So I figured I would just see if anyone knew how to adjust the preview image in Team Center.

If the preview is not correct you can delete it from the named references. this forces Teamcenter to create a new one when you save your part in NX.

Well, this worked and it didnt work. I deleted it and I saw the image disappear. I saved the file again and saw the image reappear. So it worked. Only it recreated the same crappy image again. lol

I did notice that the file had like 25 files with that name in the named references. I deleted them all and when I saved the file, it recreated them all. It looks like possibly an image saved for each model view, (top, bottom, right, left, iso, etc... plus a bunch of standard views our files make that make no sense to me.)

Im getting the feeling this is turning into more than the problem is worth for how little of importance it is. lol

Hi,

Can you show the Values of the below Teamcenter preferences?

TC__thumbnail_dataset_type_order
ItemRevision_thumbnail_references

The default is to create the preview image from the screen when the part is saved, however you can define your own preview at any time from File/Properties then select the Preview tab. The image can be created on demand from here but be aware that the image will not automatically update if any geometry changes are made.

To be honest, I cant find those preferences. Where do I check for those at?

To my understanding, those only set up the preview in the UG part of it. My preview in the UG is good. It is only the preview in the "My Team Center" that is screwing up on me.

In Teamcenter go to Edit Properties and then select the search option.

I will only point this out in case someone else reads this and tries it. Its under "Edit - Options", not Edit Properties. [smile]

Okay, here is what I got for both of them..... If I see that the image is too hard to read, I will re attach them in separate images.

Looks okay to me.

The Dimetric views is a General Motors thing. Its part of their standard.
These will appear because of the Customer default : gateway- General- Part - Add dimetric views.
When this option is ON, there will be "n" extra predefined views in the partfiles , on top of the Top-front-right-left-etc
and will also produce these extra previews.

Tomas
