Flat head UG-34(d)(1), (2) or (3): forge vs cold formed 1

Dear colleagues:
Flat heads according to UG-34 (d) (1), (2) and (3) shall be “forged”. Here “forged” means a forming process that implies heating, or else, the flat head may be produced by cold forming according to UG-79?

Question (1): Heads are being fabricated from materials listed in Section II by a gradual pressing and spinning process. Does UG-79(a) require any mechanical testing to be performed to demonstrate the properties of the material have not been unduly impaired?

Reply (1): No.

Question (2): Is it necessary to heat treat formed heads fabricated from carbon or low alloy steels?

Reply (2): See the requirements of UCS-79(d).
