Hello All!

Does anyone have an experience of welding Bronze c83600 welding to carbon steel.
Design code is B31.3 and welding code is ASME Sec IX.
I don't see any articles online. Any input on welding process, filler wire, preheat, Interpass, shielding gas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You'll want to use the 65% Ni electrodes.

The zinc and lead content of C83600 means you will never get a very clean weld, and even brazing would be marginal; that's for like materials (i.e. other copper alloys) - joining this to steel will always be closer to a braze, since the materials have markedly different melting ranges and minimal co-solubility when molten. Soldering would be a better bet for joining it to steel. See the table "Fabrication Properties" in the link below:

Agree with btrueblood. Only a few copper alloys like copper-nicckel alloys and Al bronzes can be welded to steel.
