Digging into an existing Behlen Building to see what kind of additional load (if any, I know, it's not likely) can be added to the roof. I have the original drawings - the building was designed in 1988. I'm trying to decipher the purlin designations, but, aside from the purlins being 8" Z sections, I can't seem to crack the code:

Building is 169' - 2" ( (7) 24' bays w/ 1'-2" overhangs) x 160'.

Thanks in advance!

Please note that is a "v" (as in Violin) not a "y".

I don't think those piece marks are going to tell you the profile of the purlin.

My best guess on decoding the piece mark:
8Z is obvious
5 or 4 might be 15 gauge or 14 gauge
RP no idea
329 probably length in inches
next 5 probably half inch
A or B probably punch pattern

Thanks DanKile. What you're saying makes sense, unfortunately.

I don't suppose if anyone happens to know if Beheln used a standard profile for their Z-sections in 1988?

Please note that is a "v" (as in Violin) not a "y".

That is computer generated code. I doubt you will sort out the logic. Did you reach out to Behlen? We do have an old time PEMB guy on the forum, but he has not posted in a while.
