Hello,

I am purging digester gas pipe and I'm looking for a diesel exhaust engine that puts out as little oxygen content as possible. Ideally under 1%, limit is 7%.

I understand that sustainable legislation limits my options to older models of vehicles, equipment, etc; I am willing to purchase as required.

Are there any external factors that I have influence over that will effect the oxygen composition? (type of fuel, burning off the oxygen, etc)

Sorry for the vague question, any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Diesel engines inherently run lean, which will leave several percent O2 in the exhaust, even when running at full load. At light load or idle, the engine runs leaner, leaving more O2 in the exhaust.

Spark-ignition engines with properly function emission controls have negligible O2 in the exhaust.

Diesel engines do not throttle the air intake. They control power by controlling the fuel injection, So there is always significant excess oxygen in the exhaust.

You could add a duct burner to bring the O2 content down. Is cogeneration an option?

Can you run an SI (Spark Ignited) engine running on DG, NG or Propane fuel? A small non-lean burn SI will have an exhaust O2 between 1 and 3%, if you have a catalytic convertor on it and tune the engine properly the exhaust O2 will be around .5%.

If you provided more details about your site and what you have available, you may get better answers.

If you run a diesel so it is rolling coal then I suspect the O2 content will be low, at half max torque though you'll be up around 10%. But yes an SI engine is the obvious solution.
