Why do finger joints have a foam seal underneith of them then the finger joint supports (which are finger joint in and of themsleves)? What is the purpose of the finger joint supports? to hold the foam seal in place? In addition, why have a drainage trough under everything listed above? Is the foam seal permiable? if so what is ther purpose of the foam seal?

Do you have a reference of a particular finger joint. I have never seen a foam seal used with a finger joint.

As for the trough, you have to direct the drainage away from the joint and the critical structural members below it.
