Although the term Large Spark Ignited Engine (LSI) is a bit confusing, the term actually applies to IC engines over approximately 35 bhp. In this case, it also applies to industrial engines, not over the road.
In preperaton for an engine fuel system certification, I recently reviewed the US EPA recognized test protocol and it actually looks like electrical line signal noise! I am very familiar with the US-06, the EPA FTP-75, and the Euro cycle testing, but they look like smooth paper compared to this test.
The testing will take place on a forklift truck engine, where the throttle is slammed wide open full load and back to idle. There is almost no intermediate throttle / load transition.
Has anyone had any experience with this test? It looks like a real killer!

Are you working on Tier 1 or Tier 2? For Tier 1 (2004) you could do a C2 or D2 cycle. These are steady state. We are calibrating for both since our engines can run in both contstant speed and variable speed applications. Tier 2 (2007) requires transient testing but I don't think the cycle has been defined yet.

Are the tests you refer to automotive tests?

This is the 2007 transient test. It has been US-EPA defined (if you can call it that) and it looks horrendous! As I mentioned, it is for a forklift, off road LSI. The trace chart looks more like unfiltered AC line hash rather than a test cycle. The throttle is slammed open and closed almost instantly.
