For sliding steel parts that need to have good resistance to jamming after being "dropped in the dirt" what magnitude of clearances are generally considered better, tighter (.001 -.003") or looser (.015-.020")?
My application would be similar to a rifle design where only so much can be done to...
Well hang it all! I scrolled thru most of the posts and still cant find the answer.
What do you call the dumbest, most useless person to graduate from medical school?
A general rule I would suggest is to go into something that REQUIRES the college education you have. Otherwise you are competing with less educated people who are willing to work for less and may in fact do the job as well as you can.
It wouldn't hurt to ask co-workers, HR or your senior...
I was a Mech Engr essentially doing project management work for the first 6 years out of school. Got concerned that I was not developing "hard" engineering skills so left that to do design work. Now after 30 years and lots of solid design skills I have a layoff notice in hand and I'm surrounded...
I haved a large assy file (NX8 and Teamcenter)and after about 3 weeks of work it developed an error that says something like "null pointer....". Or inhouse guru said it was probably because I have a Lightweight PMI Section view and those are known to generate errors.
Do others here agree with...
For me problems happen with large assy files with lots of parts and constraints. Even when I check carefully to make sure it is not over constrained still bond does not work reliably. I can get it to work in simple demo files with just a few parts. I showed this to our on-site NX guru and he...
Is there a setting for accuracy that can be dialed down a bit? How do you do it? I'm finding that slight imperfections in part models I have keep constraints from being applied in ways that work on perfect parts, so hoping this might help.
Kenat I hear you. I think that so far we have avoided any impacts because machining is accurate and fits loose enough to compensate for the fuzzy definition.
I need to have custom jam nuts made as the mating parts have an extra fine J thd and these need to match and no common std parts of suitable quality exist. Need 50 each of these, .3125-32 UNJEF thd, .50 across flats, about .28 thick made of A286 STA. Program rules require parts list to call out...
On the project I'm currently working I repeatedly see an error kind on the flip side of this one. Holes etc. have full TP tol but datum planes are just drawn thru the part without identifying a datum feature. Many parts were done this way and delivered so not sure what the suppliers are...
thanks for the replies
DGallup: I agree that tol should not be any tighter than what is reqd. However, I often find that I can take multiple approaches depending on how tight I can get a feature on the part, and if tighter is not really that much more costly why not ask for it. For an everyday...
