Hat Channel or Furring Channel for veneer support

Thank you. so its an EOR design as hat channels go into prying action if they are loaded perpendicularly. So typical readily available products are not used. the manufacturer shall make custom fabrication per your design. thanks for your input.

Hat Channel or Furring Channel for veneer support

Hi Friends, A project under construction has an Insulated metal panel as veneer and the backing is CMU wall. Since metal panels cannot be attached directly to CMU they want to use Hatchannel or furring channel. In the past, I have used hat channels on the interior only but not on the exterior...

type V cement vs Type II combinations for sulphates and chlorides

Great thank you all for your responses. I think it's the shortage and availability at this point of construction. It has to be shipped for little further and time delays and construction schedule. It was also the client's request to check for alternates. found these options: but nothing like...

type V cement vs Type II combinations for sulphates and chlorides

Dear Fellow Engineers, I have few questions. i am working on a project in Florida where there is moderate aggressive for sulfates to extremely aggressive for steel. In my specification, i have suggested to Type V cement and because of the nonavailability, the client is requesting if we have...

    single angle prying action

Dear Fellow friends, Do you know any way of checking a single angle for prying action for uplift. Any spreadsheet or design example. i have a very small angle that i need to check for uplift and prying action. I am tiring to use AISC but its mainly giving for T shape. I can use double angles...

    Shear transfer at ridge vent

We have always provided blocking between trusses with a nailing pattern to transfer the shear. With the assumption that the diaphragm will have maximum bending at center, the shear will be minimum in one direction but in other directions, it will be the same except at edges. at the edges, the...

Pipe support corssing creek and rail ways

Hi, Structural tech friends, I have a client who is asking me to design support for a 36" diameter water pipe crossing two creeks and a railway crossing. For the railway crossing, i am just maintaining the bridge heights and column spacing so that i don't have any issues. for the pipe...

    Wind Load Calculation Spreadsheet

i have used https://www.struware.com/codesearch.html and it costs around $290 but its worth the price. Sometimes they give discounts. ITs good for wind loads seismic and other. i mainly use it for parapets, sign boards roof top units etc.

thanks all for your suggestions. I will do my finite element analysis verify the moments around opening and provide steel beams or Carbon fiber reinfrocement adjacent to opening. Will keep you all posted. Thanks

two way slab opening in column strip.

ok thanks that's what I was scared about. i may have to do a a drill and epoxy headed anchors to engage the slab to the beam. or and edge angle around teh opening and weld to steel beam like you suggested. thanks for your time and suggestion

two way slab opening in column strip.

its an existing slab. They already cut it. But for other locations, they are following my suggestion to keep it in the middle of the slab bay in two directions.
