Calculating ESFR sprinklers in same compartment as QR Sprinklers

As stated above, You are dealing with TWO different calc areas and TWO different calc methods. Calc the ESFR, per their criteria. Then do a Density/Area calc for the mezz. The Only time you would have combined flow is if rack sprinklers were required as a compliment to the overhead. R/ Matt

    Clevis Hanger

You will not find it, because it does not exist. Our hangers are based strictly on listing. R/ Matt

When did this pipe, which I seem to remember was UL Listed, lose the listing?

Based on the melted joint fusion, and color.., Polybutylene. Was under a big recall/class action lawsuit. Wen out early to mid 90's. R/ Matt

Tips to determine if a system is Pipe scheduled or Hydrualically Calc'd

3.5" or 5" pipe were pretty good indicators. Date of system installation is the biggest. Back in the day, hydraulics were cost prohibitive. So no one did them. R/ Matt

NFPA 13 8.8.5.3.2 - sprinkler under obstructions over 4ft wide

I believe it was added in the 13 edition.. R/ Matt

Is it allowed for a pipeline of fire water and electrical conduits to pass through the same opening?

Nothing really in NFPA. Might be a issue with Fire Stopping depending on assembly. One potential I do see, is that the conduit appears to be touching the sprinkler piping. NFPA 13 requires nothing be supported from the sprinkler piping. It is a foreign item touching the sprinkler piping per...

NFPA 13r 2013 Edition design areas outside the dwelling units when using quick response sprinklers

Really enjoying this thread... I agree with Tmack. I tend to go with the more stringent as well. I do feel however, that the Fire Load is a "loaded" description. R/ Matt

    Water curtain - Pipe sizing

We've drifted pretty far from the question.., Please understand, the way you asked the question, tells me that you need a professional contractor's assistance. That is a question that cannot be answered on a Tips forum IMHO. There are many ways to find one in your area.. R/ Matt

    Water curtain - Pipe sizing

I agree with NewtonFP. Really big pipe costs a lot of money....

supporting fire pipes from z purlin.

I am not sure what a "gripple" wire is, but it does not sound like a listed attachment? Any items touching the structure, or the pipe, in Fire Sprinkler applications must be listed. Normally, if permitted by the Steel Manufacturer, some sort of "Sammy Screw", or other approved means is to be...

Error in city conducted flow tests. How have you handled it?

You already know the answer.. Unfortunately, it places us in the bad for having to tell the owner, the city messed up, we need another $250k for a tank.. I feel we do need to hold them accountable. The question truly is how. R/ Matt

Department store more than 52000 sqft area

Not quite sure of the extent of the questions you are asking. 80,000/52,000 = 1.53, or 2 System Risers minimum. Pump for each System Riser- I am not sure of what you are asking. Normally there is one pump for building if needed. Ring type main- Presumably looped? Really not enough info here...

Application Area Definition - Centered btw Sprinklers or not?

What that guy said. It states a MINIMUM of 1.2 times.. So you cannot just draw 37 feet, or whichever the area works out to. R/ Matt
