Hi all,
See attached for photos of a cracked slab. It was poured about 6 months ago.
The floor was grinded recently ahead of the floor finish being applied.
The slab is elevated, and supported on a metal deck (trapezoidal deck), there is a mesh in the top of the slab for cracking but the...
Hi Celt 83, thank you for your response.
It's in Ireland so using Eurocode. Robot is pretty good for Eurocode, I understand they focus on that more than the North American market.
Hi all,
We're beginning a new project in the coming weeks and the intention from our company is to begin using Robot as the primary software for structural analysis. This is partially because of the cross functionality with REVIT (which we use on all our projects).
In the past, we have done...
JoshPlum, absolutely agree. Very simple to calculate by hand.
I modeled it because it is a long truss and the loads in it are quite high. I wanted to get the specific loads in every node quickly so that individual connections could be rationalized. The problem was related to modelling.
Thanks for your responses.
I figured out what was up with the model, it was a simple fix - I needed to make one of the pinned supports a roller so as not to induce unwanted horizontal forces in the booms. I've attached the updated screen grab of the axial force diagram for anyone who would like...
Hi all,
I'm sitting the Institute of Structural Engineer's exam for the United Kingdom in July and may be required to design diaphragm walls/secant pile walls depending on the question that comes up.
Can anybody point me in the direction of a good resource to help me study for this, I haven't...
Hi all,
I would appreciate your help in explaining to me why the tension in the bottom chord is not the same value as the compression in the top chord?
See attached for a screen grab of the model (disregard that the load values don't match on both sides (the program picks out the forces in...
@motorcity nope, doing it on my own time for a project, I did a push over using a fictional unit load (I'll have higher deflection in reality). I enjoy trying to get these things out. I'm in the early years of my career and think it's important to have a good understanding of where results are...
Hi all,
I'm looking to calculate the relative stiffness of a number of braced steel frames on a 3 storey building using the unitl load method.
I've come up with the bones of the derivation (I think it's correct!) but I'm finding that the defleciton that I'm getting for the frame differs from...
Thank you for all of your responses.
I plugged the numbers into the top formula and I got the correct answer (the STAAD answer)!
Has anyone got a derivation for the formula by any chance/the reference for the book that the formula comes from? How is the Lbrace^3/Lhoriz^2 arrived at?
Hi all,
I'm doing hand calculations for a one storey braced building. I need to check the deflection of the building. To do so I've done what I thought was a simple hand check (attached).
However, I did a very quick check with STAAD just to make sure my hand calc was accurate but the...
