I'm looking at an old flat roof framed with glulam and rough sawn lumber. The client wants to add an HVAC unit to it.
It's sagging and ponding intermittently between glulams. The roof doesn't have drains or scuppers.
Has anyone tried to reverse the sag to eliminate the ponding or should...
Check the data sheet to see the maximum depth of the repair sika recommends. Some grouts are too exothermic and will swell while curing, then shrink when they cool down. You can add a bit of aggregate to cool it down.
I have worked with thin stone veneer. I came across this handbook. https://www.indianalimestonecompany.com/technical-data/ili-handbook-and-technical-notes/
I have another book "Stone Cladding Engineering" by Rui de Sousa Camposinhos that has a modern approach in line with Eurocode.

I had a situation where the contractor backfilled a lube pit prior to the floor going on over the pit. The contractor provided wood shoring that was completely outclassed. The wall bowed in a couple inches and the masonry overhung the exterior support wall. Looking back, I should have put the...
Do you have a link for that?
Lots of these European based fasteners are coming into our market. It's driven by cross lam. I recently used a 45-degree washer to screw the top flange of a steel beam to the underside of an existing top plate. It saved me adding a nailer to the top of the beam. The...
Check My-ti-con. They're in Canada and sell to the USA as well. They have design guides and testing information for their products. I think all of these fasteners are from Europe.
I was at a seminar where some new wood fastener techniques were being explained.
Its possible to reinforce wood with screws when loaded perpendicular to the grain.

I've run into this a few times on retaining walls and on guards at slab edges.
A better practice is to use a flush plate with embeds. You can weld to it later.
A side mounted plate for retaining walls is also good.
Aluminum design is such a bear at times. In Canada, they just last week added a CSA standard for aluminum design to follow that includes screws .
I have tried to put together a proper spreadsheet on previous jobs but the situation becomes so specific that I can't reuse it.
As a common courtesy you should call the architect and mention your involvement. You should be objective with the other professional. You don't know if there are other lateral resisting systems added during construction that aren't shown on the drawings.
I think it's one of the most basic...
I've been asked a few times for help with this sort of thing. It needs to be checked against all the environmental loads that it's subjected to. Use judgement for deflection, maybe use the limits of signage.
You can check the structure for the loading of a person climbing it. That might be...
