    Problems Sourcing A4-70 fasteners

I regulary use A4-70 fasteners for non pressure containing bolting in salt spray environment. We (in UK) order to BS6105 (superseded by BS EN ISO 3506). A4 is 316 austenitic - 2-3% Moly A2 is 304 stainless - no Moly

    Pressure-Temperature Rating for NiAB C95800?

As far as I'm aware there are no published P/T ratings for ASTM B148 C95800. There is a method however of calculating P/T ratings for materials not listed in ASME B16.34 - I think the said method lives in the back of ASME B16.34.

    Rib Hatching

Hi, I'm not able to select the rib on the elevation I wish to section - If I try, I exclude the whole component from being sectioned.

    Rib Hatching

Hi, SW 2008 allows me to create a sectional drawing of a part and exclude any rib features from being sectioned. When I apply this to a sectional drawing of an assembly containing the part described above - SW crashes every time. On creating the section SW prompts me to choose rib...

    New PC

Hi, I'm due to get a new PC next week and would appreciate some advice on re-installing SolidWorks. I have several concerns including licence transfer, saving my settings, service packs (currently running SW2008 SP3.1) etc. Any advice on how to make a smooth transition would greatly...

    SW2008 PC Crashing

Hi, Since upgrading to SW2008 my PC is crashing on average twice a week. The error code on the resulting blue screen indicates that the problem lies with the ATI graphics driver. After this happened the first time I immediately updated the relevant graphics driver from the SW web site...

    Parts Location

Thanks guys, I went down the route of tools/options/file locations, added some more folders to the list and it worked out fine.

    Parts Location

Hi, I have a design folder containing assy, parts and drawings which has been supplied by a third party. I now need to move these files from this temporay folder to the correct directories on our server. My fear is that in transfering the files, assy links will be lost. Any suggestions...

To Extrude or not to extrude

Hi, What do people consider best practice to create a simple cylinder? I have traditionally produced this type of feature by drawing a circle and extruding it. I am now being told by a fellow solidworks user that I should be using revolves. Any comments? Graybags

    ASME VIII Div 1 UG-34

Hi all, Referring to sketch j in fig UG-34, the calculated flange thickness 't' is shown from the gasket contact face to the back of the cover, however, the thickness of the flange where the bolt holes pass through appears thinner. I have calculated 't' using formula 2 for both operating...

    Bearing Loads

Hi, I'm currently working on a trunnion mounted ball valve, trying to calculate the bearing sizes for the stem and trunnion. Is the bearing load on the trunnion and stem simply the max design pressure multiplied by the seat contact area plus weight of ball etc? If designing the bearings and...

    Bolted joint - Bolt Spacing

Hi, My application is a bolted cover for a swing check valve. Is there a design code/empirical rule of thumb that dictates maximum bolt spacing. My calcs take into account the y and m factors, however, how can i be sure that the gasket will not leak mid way between bolts? Thanks in advance...

    Bearing material

Hi, Currently designing a trunnion mounted ball valve for use on seawater. The trunnion locates in a blind hole in the bottom of the ball and is normally sleeved with a nylon bush. Due to the fact that this valve needs to be of a "fire safe" design (client is insistent on it!), i'm looking...

    PED IMPACT TEST REQUIREMENTS

Thanks for your response stanweld. This is my argument exactly for not impact testing copper alloys for -20 deg F service. However, on a recent PED audit, the notified body rep. highlighted to my collegue that the copper alloys should be tested. Is he making his own directive up? I have...

    PED - Impact Test Requirements

Hi, Is there a need to impact test Nickel Aluminium bronze material to satisfy the PED? Annex 1 sestion 7.5 states that a steel is sufficiently ductile if its bending rupture energy measured on an ISO V test-piece is no less than 27J at a temperature not greater than 20 deg C but not higher...

    DUPLICATE NOTES IN 2005

Yes they do appear on the previews. The notes in question were originally attatched to holes/tapped holes and consist of approx. 4 lines of text, not SW hole call outs. When I click on the note SW is recognising it as a dimension, I can no longer edit the note. Regards

    DUPLICATE NOTES IN 2005

Hello users, When checking out drawings (created in SW 2004),from PDM Works into SW 2005, duplicate notes appear above the original notes. I cannot delete or edit the duplicate, I'm having to print the dwg and re-type all the notes. Can anyone save me some time??

    Out of sequence BOM

Still having trouble with those pesky balloons! I now have a sub assy (consisting of three simple components) at item 4, followed by several individual items. The Excel BOM looks correct, however, SW balloons the sub assy components 5, 6 & 7. What am I doing wrong??
