I need help with selecting air cooling-heating equipment for a high humidity environment within a new insulated outdoor chamber for a test laboratory in Florida.
A new 20' L x 10' W x 10' H chamber with 4" styrene insulation in aluminum panels forming walls and ceiling will contain those...
Estimating around 140 feet of each branch length, I have calculated a max expansion of 0.6 inches, which could create an axial force of about 34,000 lbf, if perfectly restricted.
Would you consider expansion devices for each affected branch?
If so, how many and at locations?
I have just...
Here is the plan view of the second floor pipe layout.
Note that no coupling has ever failed at first floor, only around central area of second floor.
Chiller and pumps are on the roof, just above second floor.

Thank you all.
Answering some of your questions:
I have contacted Victaulic, but I have not received any response so far.
I could recommend one or two expansion loops for each problematic branch.

Dear all,
I am involved in an engineering problem related to pipe connectors that have been failing around every five years.
This has happened in Florida, in an office building, and for a chilled water piping system serving individual coils and fed by VFD pumps.
The bolts of the couplings have...
The second part of this video seems interesting to me.
The flashing light coming from next to the elevator roof machine room could be from the rupture of the power supply wires of the AC rooftop unit while falling down.

Counterbalance alone, like weight and pulleys, may not work for this application, since the mirror will be accelerating all the way down.
Perhaps you will need to engineer a simple friction mechanism that could have fine adjustment from outside.

Local regulations and authorities have no clear position about this situation, which is the reason to my question.
Florida building code refers to Fire code, where we have not found any specific guidelines.

Just wanted to ask here about a situation that is new to me.
Do you know where could I find information about restrictions or guidance for location of discharge of exhaust gases for a huge Diesel generator?
The application is a new Assisted Living Facilities in Florida.

If the preliminary drawing is accurate, unlike member 11, web member 2 (type B) was specified to have two permanent tensioner bars loaded at 200 KIPS each (please, refer to SheerForceEnd's post of 24 Mar 18 01:10 above).
To resist buckling under gravity of the more slender and horizontal member...
What would be the reason for the debilitating central location of the deck drain pipe, right on the plane of the web?
Is there any reason for the pitch of the deck not to drain towards both edges of the deck and then to collect the water by a low curb next to each edge and channel it out...
Great schematics!
If shear failure at the ends of the structure was the cause, it seems that an approach more towards a solid web of the I-beam by both ends could have added some safety factor with little penalty regarding materials, weight and "aesthetics".
For example, another horizontal...
That computer animation showing the assembly of the FIU pedestrian bridge (Miami Herald) explained my question about how the transporter was positioned under the finished structure.
@ dik, EPCI-Steel and Ingenuity: I really appreciate your answers to my questions about the tensioning process and equipment.
At the office, we were discussing about the fact that one of the tensioning bars of member 11 remained in place while the one having the hydraulic cylinder attached to it...
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation, EPCI-Steel.
Additional questions about the tensioning process for anyone that may know:
1) Can the plastic flow of the steel, prior snapping, be seen in the gauge or be informed to the operator by some kind of alarm?
2) If so, does the hydraulic...
Does anybody have experience with the capability of the self-propelled modular transporters to keep the bridge lifted at a more or less constant plane, avoiding transferring ground irregularities, like cross slope of the road and road separator, to the structure?
It seems to me that the I-beam...

I see, but I would treat the system as a fixed volume one, balanced by hood and Pitot tubes where non-accessible, before chasing the tail of the sensors and controls.
I know it is complicated and I don't claim that I know a magic solution; just trying to give you some suggestions to step back...
