    I have built an electromagnet that is capable of attracting ferromagnets, from a small distance. When this electromagnet attract's small pieces of iron or steel, I assume the magnetic field of the electromagnet "changes" it increases due to the piece of iron. But what is the iron's B = to?

    As I increase the turns of the electromagnets, eventually more voltage is needed to maintain the same magnetic field. Thank you @IRstuff, eventually the field will become larger. But would the force change and become greater?

    This is an electromagnet that has both poles on it's surface. Example . When it's surface is in direct contact to a ferromagnet it generates forces up to 480 lb.     @dgallup, What do you mean with the small regions part? Could you clarify? Can these solenoids(I assume with iron cores i/e electromagnets...) act on objects form a distance? It does not have to be fully uniform, anything about 70% will do.
