Need a high temp, stainless, 18 mm, coded safety switch

I am looking for a high temperature (250ºF, ambient steam exposure), stainless steel, magnetic, coded safety switch. We currently use several AB Ferrogard and STi switches in various guarding applications. I need a switch like AB 440N-S32024, but in stainless with a high temp rating...

Thanks for all the great feedback. This site is awesome. True it is not a "bearing", but the face seal contact is under thrust load from the elastomer as described above. PV is the only way to quantifiably compare materials under consideration. We currently use a loaded silicone seal in...

I should also mention that this is in a food plant, and is broken down for sanitation daily. I wouldn't think creep should be too much of a concern? Is there any way to edit posts on this board? I'm not familiar with this BBS platform. Thanks y'all!

Also, Viton is a very pricey material due to EPA regs on its mfg process, but it does perform as advertised. I used to work for a hydraulic cylinder mfr, and it was the only solution for many applications.

Here's a screenshot of a concept drawing xsecn view. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v280/tracetrimble/untitled.gif The rotor cups are stainless, and the Rulon is in sheet form. When the housing is clinched down by the mount bolts, the silicone elastomer loads the rotor cups. The amount...

Thanks for the reply. Take a look at this: http://www.cinchseal.com/solids.htm I'm simply adapting this design to my needs.

It would be possible to measure relative torque (as opposed to absolute) to some degree of accuracy using a high end VFD (inverter) that will show current load. This won't work in my case because I'm using a returned 3 hp 60:1 gearmotor for the test stand, which is extremely oversized. I'd be...

Yes, everything you list except torque will be monitored, but not in an automated manner. I plan to run different setups for a set period of time, and stop and take measurements. While this is not ideal, I don't have budget for automation, and this should get me where I need to be (a working...

Need help in re-designing rotating joint

Also, tapering the OD of the round plates to match the clamp would be a very good idea.

Need help in re-designing rotating joint

I will second a couple ideas here, knurling and hardening one face, or using a sanitary Tri-Clover style clamp around the outside. The clamp would be a lot less trouble to try first.

TTT... I'm currently waiting for my test stand to get finished, just trolling for some more input. Thanks- Trace

Trying to CYA for most situations is one thing, but stating that your PV (probably the most important spec for a bushing material) is 10 times what it tests out to be is quite another. It's really not worth my time to make an issue of it, but IMO that's a shady business practice, and seems like...

And I was aware of the max V and max P you state, but... sheesh. This smacks of false advertising. Thanks again all.

Wow, that's no good. Where did you get this information? I've seen PV 10,000 on our supplier's literature, as well as several other places. http://www.matweb.com/search/SpecificMaterial.asp?bassnum=PSTGQZ174 My speed is not fixed, but 45 rpm is typical maximum.

Of the different lapped finishes I've tried, the higher grits generated more heat and sometimes stiction, but the finest I went was 320 grit. I will try 600 and higher. Rulon-641 is a high-end FDA-approved reinforced PTFE. The fill media is proprietary, but I would assume not carbon because...

The contact surface is an annular ring, 4.93" OD x 4.19" ID. Have not heard of TFM, is it FDA approved? Got a link? Thanks again for the replies.

The mating suraface is 303 ss. I have tried several different finishes: - ~32 RMS raw machined - 600 grit sandpaper in lathe - 180, 320, and 600 grit cross hatched - tumbled The 180 x-hatch and tumbled surfaces performed best with a cheaper grade reinforced PTFE. Due to time constraints...

I'm looking for an FDA-approved bearing material with high abrasion resistance. This application is for the food industry, similar to a packing seal, subjected to low pressure (<5 psi) water-based product, up to 220ºF. I have tested virgin teflon and two grades of FDA reinforced PTFE...

screw conveyor, cuting plan of blade

are you talking about the flat pattern? (the shape that needs to be cut from sheet, for subsequent forming) or are you talking about how to communicate what you need to end up with? if it's the latter, add the material type & thickness to your specs above, and you're basically there.
