Understanding the relationship between fatigue and fracture

dhengr, my question is the "relationship between fatigue and fracture", not the definition of them from a text book. I do not expect anybody to spoon feed me anything. I hope someone can find something useful from your post? rb1957, thanks you much for your response. Its much appreciated.

Understanding the relationship between fatigue and fracture

Does anyone have any good references for the discussion between the relationships between fatigue and fracture components? Thanks.

    Selecting internal surfaces

Thanks for your reponse rollupswx, I am refering to both the part and assembly enviroment. The only way I have been able to achieve this so far is to hover my mouse over the area of interest and then a drop down menu appears with the options, however, it is still difficult to distingish between...

    Selecting internal surfaces

Hello all I am new to Autodesk inventor 12 This is a very simple question, but would be useful to know how to select hidden surfaces which are covered by other surfaces. It's easy when you now how :-) thanks.

    New to dynamic Abaqus/Explicit analysis

Hello all, After conducting lots of Abaqus Standard/static analysis. I am now looking at using Abaqus Explcit to model impact. I am starting off with a simple impact analysis, however I am finding i difficult to reach a solution. What should I be looking for as an indicator to during the...

    Modelling kinematics

Thanks, are there any 3D options out there?

    Modelling kinematics

Does anyone know of any good software to model kinematics (other than MSC Adams). I am interesting in modelling a motion problem and then extracting the position data during the movement. Thanks I look forward to hearing from you all.

    Any ideas anyone? Thanks

    Results from analysis

My particular problem involves contacts and I have decided to conduct a dynamic implicit analysis (i.e. considering the density of the material) and standard static analysis. Am I correct to assume that if, the stress results are the same for both analysis then I can ignore the dynamic/intertial...

Obtain contact between components in Solidworks

Hello all, Is there anyway I can model two components in Solidworks, position them and determine the contact area between them? I that the contact area will depend on the load between the components, just wondered if anyone had any thoughts/experience with this? Thanks.

Running analysis directly onto external hard drive

Thanks mechfeeney, so just to clarify, Do you mean installing and running the Abaqus software from my PC internal harddrive (C:/) and having my analysis runs directed to my external HD. Or are you suggesting that when the analysis run completes on my internal HD then transfer all the analysis...

How to refine an axisymmetric mesh in the contact region ?

Have you tried partitioning the model to achieve what you want?

How to refine an axisymmetric mesh in the contact region ?

You could model seperate parts and tie them together, then you can mesh each part with a different mesh density. Or, you could use bias meshing, where you define a high number of elements in the contact zone and less in the areas you are not so concerned about. Hope that helps.

Running analysis directly onto external hard drive

Hello all, I am running out of space options for analysis on my machine. Does anyone use an external hard drive to run Abaqus analysis directly from. Alternatively, does anyone encounter any problems transfering analysis from the C:/ drive to the external HD and getting corrupt files when you...

Micro and subsurface crack inititation using XFEM

Hello all, I am looking into using XFEM to assess fracture risk and crack initiation between two components in contact. Does anyone have anyone experience using this technique at the micro scale and subsurface levels? I am not even sure if that is possible? Is there any good reference I can be...
