24vdc digital signal cable length limit

I have gone 1000m (3000 ft) with a standard On/Off signal to a controller. most controllers take about 45mA to sense a logic (1). I typically use #14awg for all my digital signals, so that voltage drop issues don't come into play.

What happened here? Your best guess welcome... Photo1

I would say overcurrent. If you had a problem with the elements, combined with poor fuse/breaker co-ordination, you could see this kind of damage. They may have replaced the elements, but did anyone megger them? or at least check the resistance to determine if there is a short?

    Analog output to analog input

If you decide to use this method, make sure both systems share a common(negative) otherwise you can get some issues even with isolated cards. One solution is to use an Isolator (weidmuller 990880 approx. cost $200)this will allow for both systems to provide loop power and maintain isolation

    single line diagrams

I have found that a "B" size or 11 x 17 works fantastic in the field. It is exactly 1/2 the standard planning size drawings and the information still shows up quite well. I just recently did a single line for a 69kV/7.2kV/5kV distribution system, right down to the 7.2kV/480V transformers and...
