    Check on FE formula

Hi all, I have found this equation in a paper (please see link below), the paper does not explain the "G" term, and I have not seen this before in an FE formula. Just wanted to check that this term was indeed "Force". Or am I missing something...

Thanks IceBreakerSours. I will read them through.

    References on Energy Checks

Hi all, In the past a number of the engtips community have provided really nice advice on the checking of energies when running FE analysis and during the post processing of results. I am just wondering if there are any references to specific material on this subject so I can learn more. I...

    ErrElemVolSmallNegZero with Orphan Mesh

After finding out where the problem element was, I just deleted the element, it was not not in a critical location, I am not sure if you are able to do the same, probably not the most recommended way to solve this problem. I much prefer sdebocks suggestions in the first instance (thanks sdebock).

    New to welding

Sorry EnergyMix, I didn't know that existed.

    New to welding

Thanks everyone, Tmoose, yes I was referring to a carbon arc torch, sorry for my bad use of terminology.

    New to welding

chicopee, I noticed than you can buy a separate attachment for an arc welding to make it suitable for brazing, not sure how well these work though.

    New to welding

Thanks RossABQ, Yes, after a lot more research, I can see that some areas of welding are just best left to experts and good equipment. I have decided to go for this to be a hobby and improvement of my engineering knowledge and skills rather than for important and safety critical welding. In...

    New to welding

I have found this to be a really useful resource http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/

    New to welding

Also, all the welding will be done in doors in a garage. Really looking forward to learning and improving my welding skills. It will hopefully improve me as an engineer also, appreciate the complexities and challenges of welding.

    New to welding

Thank-you all, definitely at this stage my priority is easy and low cost rather than quality of finish. After looking at a few places on the net, it seems that no gas MIG is the way to go to start with. My aim to learn the process and use it mainly for car chassis welds plate welds, hole...

    New to welding

Hello all, I am a mechanical engineer by profession, I am planning a kit car building projech which will involved welding to learn and improve my skills. I would like to carry out the welding myself and therefore will need to learn as much as I can, does anyone have any experience with welding...

    Tubing Snap Fit

I am assuming you are designing this in CAD, if you have an FEA module attached to it, how about running a quick analysis on it?

    Abaqus Subroutines

Unfortunately, I feel the manuals are a little lacking in your request, you will need an Intel FORTRAN Compiler, configure this with abaqus and then read through the examples in the manuals. Can you get hold of Intel FORTRAN, see minimum requirements spec on the abaqus website for version of...

    Need Abaqus Help!

Try creating a point on the part in the part module, then apply the load to that point, you can apply a concentrated load in x,y and z directions so you can work out the x,y,z loads to get you your 20 degrees. Hope that helps

Applying cyclic loading in DIRECT CYCLIC step

Thank-you sdebock, my mistake, apologies and thanks for the clarification.

Relationship between structures Natural Frequency and Contact Mechanics

Hi all, I am just brainstorming here and trying to think outside the box. All you comments and input is very much appreciated. I will try to give an example. Lets say we have a structure with a very complex range of material properties i.e. each element of the FE model has assigned a different...

Relationship between structures Natural Frequency and Contact Mechanics

I understand that techniques such as FEA can be used to the mode shapes and natural frequencies of structures. I am wondering if finding out the mode shapes and natural frequencies can help in providing any information or inclination of the the materials ability to cope with contact conditions...
