    Rectangular vessel Hydrotest condition >1.3*DP*LSR

Good day to all, For rectangular vessel(Header box), I am aware that one should apply Appendix 13 as per ASME code. However if my hydrotest value is higher than 1.3*design pressure* LSR, how do I validate that the vessel strength is acceptable at the higher pressure theoretically. For...

Appendix A tube to tube-sheet joint Lmax and L

Good day everyone, for ASME appendix 13 tube to tube-sheet joint, when it is not possible to obtain full strength weld due insufficient space for welding(at least this is what I am told), the other way I can verify the tube joint is through appendix A? I manage to get Pe,Po and Lmax value...

Different thickness for Appendix 2 Flg and Shell

Good Day to all, For Section VIII Appendix 2 Figure 2-4 sketch 6(welding neck), is there anything in code that states the small hub thickness has to be the same as the shell attached? The small hub end is 16mm (sa-105)and shell plate is 14mm (sa-515 70). Also, I did not quite understand why the...

    Tubesheet method of calculation

Dear SntMan & r6155, Thank you for your replies and i am really appreciative of the advice I receive through this forum. The method of going by U-2(g) and using Tema calculations has been accepted. Thank you! Yours Sincerely, L.Y

    Tubesheet method of calculation

Dear All, I have a replacement job with one tube-sheet integral to both sides and the other tube-sheet integral to shell and extended flange. The extended flange tube-sheet is attached to vessel B which is not being replaced. Both tube-sheets are of different thickness and different boundary...

    Sight Glass for sodium hydroxide

Good day to all, I need some opinion/advise on the material of sight glass in presence of sodium hydroxide. The design temperature is around 195 degC and pressure 1.3 MPa. The only offer i got from suppliers was quartz but i am curious if borosilicate can do the job. Thank you. Yours...

Comparing Appendix 13 results with Finite Analysis Results(ANSYS)

Good Evening, Thank you for the replies. The latest values i received was really promising with the advice here. I do have a larger discrepancy at the corners comparing it with the mid of the plates. Can i gather that might be due to proximity of the edges. Thank you again. L.Y Yan...

Comparing Appendix 13 results with Finite Analysis Results(ANSYS)

Good Day to all, I am trying to understand my vendor's ANSYS report by comparing the values for Membrane, Bending and total stresses between Appendix 13 and ANSYS. The Finite element was build with no tube ligaments and only internal pressure as loading condition. However the values for membrane...

Sy value SA-423 Gr.2 Material @ 293 Degc Design Temperature

Thank you for the replies. The yield stress is used in calculating actual stress during hydrotest. I should be able to input 255Mpa as my yield stress while using allowable stress values for internal at design pressure. Thank you again for the advice.

Sy value SA-423 Gr.2 Material @ 293 Degc Design Temperature

Good Day to All, For Sa-423 Gr.2 i am trying to get the yield strength at 293 Degc which is my design temperature. In section part D, Table Y-1, it shows one value 255MPa at 40degc only. I am confused as table 1A maximum temperature limit for VIII-1 is at 343 Degc and there are allowable stress...
