You could always look at a hi-temp type of seal with lube groove faces. I have them installed with many of my customers on Boiler Feed applications, no cooling required up to 330F.
That's actually the first thing I asked, is if the pump perhaps spun backwards for any reason. I'm told it didn't, but that doesn't mean it actually didn't. They could've had a bad check (like mike1969 mentions), that they have no idea of.

Have you ever had the pump apart? We were only sent to rotating element, so I don't have the complete pump. I'm on site next week in which I will check the casings...

Hi here, when running a plan 52, unpressurised barrier tank, double seal. Is there any chance at all at contaminating the pumpage with the barrier fluid? I would say no as seal chamber pressure is above barrier tank pressure. If the inboard faces fail, pumpage would just leak into the barrier...
