    Flame/Smoke Rating of Insulation

Good afternoon, I am asking the same question in the HVAC and Fire Protection, but no one had an answer, other than telling me to read NFPA until I find something. I could not find such a reference by reading the 1.3 paragraphs for applicability. I queried the NFPA query site, response is that...

    Operating Room AHU Freeze Protection

This might be helpful, both OR and sterile process. OR's require a redundant chiller, using two coils is an option. Having propylene and a separate pump would be an option or addition. Using DDC warning of decrease in discharge temperature, further decrease shutdown OA damper, then shutdown...

I entered the following on the HVAC

Stoogeyfpe, I'm asking this because multiple manufacturers are including ASTM E84 in their advertising, and some include it only to medium pressure steam. The closest I could find is NFPA 520. That does not quite to fit, either.

I entered the following on the HVAC

I entered the following on the HVAC, no answer was available. Maybe here as it is (or could be) an NFPA issue. I am working on replacement of steam lines in a campus setting. Decision was made to go with a pre-engineer system. I am having a problem selecting proper NFPA for E84 requirements...

Insulation on Steam Pipe for Distributionin Tunnel

Chicopee, Would you mind to point out which NFPA to go to? I've been reading all related paragraph 1.3, can find no reference for direct buried (is dirt flammable?), shallow concrete trench, and walk-in steam tunnel.

Insulation on Steam Pipe for Distributionin Tunnel

Hopefully this will be easy. I am working on specifications for steam pipe going through direct burial, shallow trench, and walk-on tunnel. One section is for fire/smoke rating. A guide spec has been provided for both air conditioning and ventilation of HVAC systems under Division 23, and...

Has anyone here have experience using Rawal APR valves for humidity control?

Ventilation air treatment in hot and humid climate

If you want to control sensible temperature and RH at the same time a reheat, or desiccant, is needed. Going thru that now. Thinking about using an APR, but haven't used it before. Anyone here had any experience using them? Last time that came up (on a different site) I used a reheat. No...

    Senior Engineer

It's great being a "senior" because it means getting a closed office room with a door so I can use "The door opened with a jerk"

    Veterans in Engineering

For the USA, that would be Table of Distribution and Allowance (TDA); is there a desk available? For Modified Table of Equipment (MTOE - you all are going to Middle East) and are credited with inventing the AMF acronym (some times confused with ACE Mobile Force).

Atlantic, As old people used to say, "...now for the rest of the story." Design was performed by a consultant, who was told in his contract to perform TRACE and BLCC for LCCA before 30% design submittal for review. A-E was asked to consider slinky as an alternative. A-E performed vertical...

The design and construction is to the ASHRAE 189.1 standard for envelop. Architect wants an award so it includes solar panels, light harvesting, passive air preheat for outside air, energy recovery, GSHP, etc. I provided three alternatives for the failed wells. Customer wants this done...

Opinions (and facts) is wanted. I've been assigned to deciding how to replace or repair a geothermal (GSHP) for supporting a 30,000 SF warehouse. I've been discussing whether to install 17 additional wells (additional wells to supplement well design, all but 14 of the wells pooped out at 120')...

    Veterans in Engineering

I believe that referring to comparison to "the military" misses a big point. Lot of difference exists between dealing with MTOE units than TDA units. In my dealings, MTOE has been great, TDA tends to look at organizational and political units.

    ESP Calculation

If you are driving on a tollway, and you drive the full length, do you pay the toll for going the whole distance down the tollway, or do you pay the toll for every exit on the tollway plus the final toll?
