You probably have to change the phase angle of your source to match your trapped charge or put in a very small impedance between the source and your trapped charge.

Why would the fault impedance be mostly reactive? Are you sure you aren't thinking about the PF of the fault current?

It would be nice if faults were purely reactive. Nothing would be burning or blowing up by the fault.
