    Define boundary conditions in Abaqus

In terms a boundary conditions, are you trying to model real gait loads , i.e. walking cycle or just max load i.e. 2000N. By assuming the end of the femur is fixed, you could just constrain the bottom edge of the end of the femur (U1, U2 and UR3). If you are new to abaqus I recommend the...

    CPRESS and CSTRESS

I would like to clear something up please, sorry if this is basic question. when selecting the Field Output requests, CSTRESS (Contact Stress) can be selected, however when viewing the results CSTRESS does not seem to be available? Only CPRESS is available, is CSTRESS the same as CPRESS...

Ball and socket Joint - Gap coming into contact

Hello all, I would really appreciate some advice. Please find attached an image of a model I am working on. I have attached an cross section image of the file called IMAGE_1 at http://my.engineering.com/pg/file/OptiEng. This is a 3D ball and socket joint analysis, with an initial clearance...

How to carry out nalysis in Abaqus after importing a Hypermesh file in

I have never used Hypermesh before, but does the mesh behave in the same manner as if you created it in Abaqus, if so then you can refer to the Abaqus manual for help on progressing your model. I recommend Getting started with Abaqus Interactive Edition 6.x Appendix B: Creating and Analyzing a...

    looking for a material library

Google "Matweb" or "EFunda", these are good places for material properties. Also try ISO/BS/ASTM Standards if your organisation has access to downloading standards from the databases. Hope this helps you.

    Mating surfaces

Yes this as EEnd and rstupplebeen mentioned it was just a case of defining the points in the individual part files and not the assembly. FYI This is how I did this. From the assembly I opened up each of the two parts and added a reference point to the centre of the ball (using the arc centre...

    Mating surfaces

Hi, thanks for your feedback. EEnd, yes I have tried this... please find attached another picture called CAD Model 2 at http://my.engineering.com/pg/file/OptiEng showing creating the two points, I can select point 4 but it will not let me select more than one point. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Mating surfaces

Hello all, I am trying to mate the exterior ball surface to the internal surface of the cup in the pelvis. I have tried all sorts but had no success. I have tried creating reference points and also different mating options but need some help. Can anyone offer any advice? I am using solidworks...

    Abaqus 6.10

Hello all, has anyone used abaqus 6.10? Is this an automatic update from Simulia or are there additional costs involved? I here it has a multiphyics platform which would be very useful, see new below: http://www.simulia.com/news/pr_100524_DSS.html

    Twin discs

Well, I have found that having one rigid and one deformable disc makes the analysis simpler, I also felt this was a valid assumption in the problem I was looking at. I don't think you would obtain the same result as two deformable discs. Are you modelling a 2D problem?

    ALE Adaptive meshing

Hi curlq, Thanks for your response, the thing is, I can not see that my mesh has incrementally changed at all, perhaps this is because my problem does not require ALE. Also my deformation is no where near that shown in your image. Thanks

    ALE Adaptive meshing

Hello all, I am a little confused about Abaqus ALE adaptive meshing, my model is done using abaqus explicit (dynamic) using ALE Adaptive Mesh Domain option in the Step Module. I understood this to be a technique to improve the quality of the mesh where it is required. However, looking at the...

    User subroutines

Thanks for your input. Loki3000 am I right in saying you use UNIX rather than Windows to run abaqus? and is a GCC comiler different to "IFORT" or something like "G95 Fortran"? Abaqus produce some fantastic manuals, but I feel a little lost with the User Subroutines stuff especially as I don't...

How to carry out analysis in Abaqus on an imported Hypermesh file.

Hi NewFriend, Are you new to abaqus? If so, you might need to review the Abaqus 6.9 documentation, I recomend "Getting Started with Abaqus: Interactive Edition" and go through some of the example problems.

Sorry if you have already tried this, but have you lowered the U2 value to see if you obtain a more realistic distribution?
