Under the fundamental rules for dimensioning (ASME Y14.5-2009)
1.4(o) Dimensions & tolerances apply at the drawing level that they are specified. A dimension specified for a given feature on one level of drawing (i.e. a detail drawing) is not mandatory for that feature at any other level (i.e...
Agriego,
I have done this multiple times but it is a cumbersome process.
1. Have original file with multi-bodies - ORG-MB1.sldprt
2. Save copy of original file with multi-bodies - ORG-MB2.sldprt
3. Remove all bodies but one specific. Clean up part so there are no errors. - SB1.sldprt
4. Open...
Joe,
Your file opens without error for me as well. I am only using SolidWorks 2011 SP4.0... I have attached the import settings that I used for opening the STEP. You can access yours through the open dialog box with the STEP file type selected and select the options button on the bottom of the...
This reminds me of a story I heard of a small barber losing most his clients to the new quick cuts that offered $5 haircuts... He hired a consultant to evaluate how he could possibly compete. The consultant advised him to erect a sign up and invoiced him. The owner put up the sign and business...
Chavelo,
There is quite a bit of information to make decisions on when developing your titleblock / templates. Do not do what I see happen time & time again where it is just a "quick take the template from the application for the sheet size & go."
Are you using AMSE or ISO(metric) sheets?
What...
To all,
I have a piping design handbook that illustrates offsets for slip-on flanges on elbows(90 & 45) and tees. I have been told that it is unacceptable to weld flanges directly to fittings, but can not find in the piping codes this regulation. I find it difficult to believe that there would...
Dan,
If you truly want to get control of your time look into "Getting Things Done (GTD): The Art of Stress-free Productivity" by David Allen. There are thousands of authors out there, each with their methods of management, but David Allen's philosophical methods do have science that backs it...

Steve,
You are going to have to contact your VAR as this requires a change to your license file on your server. There is usually a cost associated with it, but sometimes I have seen VAR wave the cost of the converted seats if you purchase other apps that have to be added to the license anyway...
Hi all...
I worked it through PTC technical help and we worked out the issue.
By disabling the Nvidia nView Desktop Manager we have seemed to resolve the issue.

Hi all,
I have been getting an annoying graphics problem in drawing mode when annotating my drawing views in Pro/E Wildfire 5.0 M050. I can be working along and shortly (7-10 menu commands) after the dialog boxes come up incomplete.(see image) It is almost like it is a phantom dialog box. If...
Quick question...
Is placing a copyright symbol within a drawing titleblock common? I have seen it done a few times, but I do not feel that it is correct, and the confidentiality disclaimer suits this purpose.

Is there a way to drag components off the asm model tree and onto the work area to add additional copies of a prt/asm in the active asm? (like other applications - not naming any specifically)

Does SolidWorks 2011 still require a file conversion when loading the file? Do users still have to convert there assemblies prior to using them? or have they changed to do the conversion when the file is saved?

Does Solid Edge require a file conversion on the front end? (ie at point of loading/as opposed to back end at point of saving)If that makes any sense.
SolidWorks requires that older versions of Model/Asm be converted to the version installed (ie 2006-->2010).
The first loading takes sometime...
Chris,
When you are dealing with a current assembly it is not an issue to update the files, but when 300-400 components within the assembly are set in the PDMWorks vault as released and there is no saving the files and converting the vault has been regarded as an over-expense... (another issue)...
It is frustrating that SWX converts files when opening the documents... not at time of saving them. This significantly increases the time it takes to open an assembly. Granted that ounce the files are converted, the files open quicker... If only they did this conversion at the time of saving the...
Chris,
I totally agree with you...
I kind of like to blame a bit of this to the canned demos that are done on the PDM products to show how easy it is. They just check-in this and that with no regard or explain what is happening so that when in an actual production environment, the manager...
At a previous workplace, PDM Works (workgroup) was utilized. It worked well and have since upgraded to PDW Works Enterprise.
In my experience in working with a PDM was multiple concepts were modeled and when the design was approved, the assemblies & components would be renamed to the part...
